  Free Git hosting for open-source projects, run by the non-profit Codeberg e.V. in Berlin on hardware the association owns, with netcup and Hetzner used only for backups and DDoS protection. Private repos are limited to ~100 MB and must support a free software project, so it is not a GitHub replacement for commercial work.

  Single Go binary, runs fine on a small VPS, actions are largely GitHub-workflow compatible. GPLv3, community-governed under Codeberg e.V. after Gitea's trademark was handed to a for-profit company.

Payment Service Providers

Payment Service Providers (PSPs) process payments on behalf of your company. You remain the merchant of record and handle tax/VAT yourself.

  Huge EU native payment processor. However, only works with big clients (they turned us down).

  Subscription billing and payment gateway. Most similar to Stripe functionality wise. Monthly fee required. Runs on AWS.

  Payment and subscription billing platform popular with EU SMBs. Runs on Google Cloud. Solid pricing, less primitives than Stripe or Frisbii.

  Dutch PSP with four own data centers in the Netherlands. All payment products developed in-house. Uses Google Cloud to facilitate the actual payment transactions. Unfortunately even smaller feature set than Mollie, doesn't handle subscriptions natively.

  French PSP built on Scaleway infrastructure with EU data centers. Rather limited feature set (similar to Pay.nl).

Merchants of Record

Merchants of Record (MoRs) become the legal seller of your product. They handle international tax, VAT, and compliance, and you receive payouts. Convenient, but adds a dependency layer.

  Open-source MoR platform for developers selling SaaS and digital products. Uses Stripe under the hood for payment processing. Because Stripe cannot guarantee EU-only processing, data can be transferred outside Europe.

  MoR for SaaS and AI-native startups. Built on top of Stripe Connect for payment processing and payouts. Same constraint as above: EU-only processing cannot be guaranteed.

  Transactional and marketing email API and SMTP relay, built entirely on UpCloud. Cracked and responsive founder team. Great deliverability and pricing.

  Marketing + transactional email, CRM, and SMS. Uses OVH for primary hosting but Google Cloud for backups/storage in Belgium. Has a global suppression list across domains, making it unusable for us.

  Practical multi-domain email hosting at flat pricing. DNS lookups resolve to OVH IP ranges in France. Great value for managing many domains and receiving emails and sending emails manually - an email inbox.

  Privacy-focused email with end-to-end encryption. Strong brand and security posture. We had issues with our email deliverability early on though.

  OpenAI-compatible inference with zero data retention. EU data residency for model workloads (e.g. Dublin/Helsinki per provider). Their sub-processors include US companies for parts of the stack, but not for model hosting. Still 🟡 [C-EU] for CLOUD Act exposure on those services. We use it via Cortecs.

  Inference platform for open-source models on Nebius-owned GPU clusters. The public inference endpoints are often overloaded. They seem to move away from Europe towards the US.

  OpenAI-compatible inference for latest open-source models using their own inference engine (not just vLLM). They use nebius servers plus their own alongside 6G.AI. We use it through Cortecs.

• 🟢 SOVAKI.IODE

  Open Source LLMs running on their own infra. They offer Minimax M2.5. "Own" infra as it seems to be a spin-off of AIME.info in Berlin.

  OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible API on top of 10+ European inference providers across 8 countries. 60+ Open Weight LLMs with automatic failover.

  OpenAI-compatible inference for Qwen3.8-27B (262K context) on EU-owned infrastructure (German edge, Finnish GPU datacenter). Zero data retention, public live status page with measured TTFT and throughput.

  Real-time text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and voice cloning APIs. Spun out of Kyutai Labs (Paris). Runs on AWS, and plan to move to multi-cloud architecture with AWS/Azure/GCP. They have EU and US deployments.

  Open-source LLM tracing and evaluation by Arize. Single-container deployment, lightweight and simple. Self-host on your EU cloud.

  Open-source LLM tracing platform with tracing. Powerful feature set, but much heavier to self-host than Phoenix.

  Minimal open-source terminal coding agent. The "Arch Linux" of coding agents cause base feature set is tiny, and can be customized as much as you want.

  High-performance open-source code editor with a built-in agent panel. Runs entirely locally (disable telemetry).

  Privacy-first website analytics, hosted on Hetzner in Germany with EU-owned CDN (Bunny). Also available as self-hosted Community Edition. No cookies, no personal data collection, GDPR-compliant out of the box.

  Open-source TypeScript authentication framework. Use with popular web frameworks such as nextjs or sveltekit. Self-host on EU infrastructure for full sovereignty - the practical alternative to Auth0/Clerk without giving up features.

  Full observability platform: uptime monitoring, status pages, on-call, incident management, logs, and APM. Much heavier than Uptime Kuma, but much broader feature set. Self-host for full sovereignty.

  Open-source encrypted backup to any S3-compatible storage. Pair with EU object storage (Hetzner Storage Box, Scaleway Object Storage, OVHcloud Object Storage).
